The Retroid Pocket 5 and Flip 2 have been the de facto 865 handhelds over the course of the last year or so. A Snapdragon 865 that can manage just about everything up through Gamecube and PS2. Constant driver updates from the community to help with x86 emulation, as well as the ability to boot Linux through the form of Rocknix, and a solid 8gb of ram that was just about enough to do everything within that range. Or at least, that was the case. As of today, both the Retroid Pocket 5 and the Flip 2 have seen a price increase, but also a spec bump.

Thanks to an update announcement over in the Retroid Discord, ChrisCovers has confirmed that just like everything in the 2026, both handhelds are about to recieve a $10 price bump over where they were just days before. However, unlike most price increases this comes with the side benefit of an extra 4gb of ram. In the announcement it was confirmed that any unfulfilled orders of both the RP5 and RP Flip 2 will be upgraded to 12gb of ram at no additional charge, but the 8gb model has been replaced with the 12gb + 128gb model going forwards. All of this is due to the fact that it seems Retroid has completely run dry of their 8gb + 128gb configurations of their devices, and just can’t produce them anymore.
While this is a change going forwards, it’s important to note the price increase isn’t an immediate one. You have about one week to make your purchase as once July 15th hits, the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 bumps to $219, and the Retroid Pocket 5 climbs back to $209.

So what does that mean for you? Right now nothing, but it’s unnerving that companies are starting to completely run out of specific configurations of ram and storage. Is Retroid going to run out of their 8gb + 128gb Retroid Pocket 6? Are they going to have to move to just a 12gb + 129gb stick top configuration? What about other companies and their lower end skus, are they just going to sell out and never get restocked again? There’s a lot of questions to ask, but for now the focus is on the changes being made now, and what companies will outright tell you that. And so far, Retroid has been great on letting us in on what’s going on. Now we just need to wait for that Flip 3.

Update: Chris has clarified that this ram update will only apply to the Snapdragon 865 model. The Dimensity D1100 of the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 will retain its’ 8gb + 128gb configuration.
