It’s no secret that 2026 has been the year of the dual-screen Android handhelds, with the likes of the AYN Thor, Anbernic RG DS, and AYANEO Pocket DS capturing the attention of many. While we’re holding out hope for Anbernic to launch an RG DS Plus, another company could be the next in line with a dual-screen handheld.
The initial report from Retro Dodo claims the “Yoniq Duo” will be introduced at Gamescom 2026, which kicks off this week in Europe. According to that report, Yoniq provided the following description of the Duo:
The Yoniq Duo Dual-Screen Handheld is a high-definition dual-screen design with 4× pixel-perfect scaling and a built-in physical stylus, recreating the interaction of classic dual-screen handhelds. It combines retro charm with modern technology, allowing players to rediscover the authentic dual-screen experience in a contemporary form.
A couple of images were also provided, giving a glimpse at the Duo’s inner design, along with another handheld called the “Portal.” Frankly, the Portal looks like those random PlayStation Portal clones that we see randomly crop-up on AliExpress, just with PS2/PS3 controllers as opposed to the DualSense.
After seeing the original news hit Reddit over the week, I visited the Yoniq website and was greeted with an AI-slop-fest. A few of the menu bar tabs at the top of the site simply took you to the same landing page, while other random bits and bobs were seemingly just tossed onto the site to fill the page out.
Unfortunately, when trying to visit the Yoniq site now, you’ll be greeted with an “Opening soon” landing page. I even tried to use the Wayback Machine to provide some examples, but the site was likely too new to actually be indexed.
Maybe I’m a bit pessimistic here, but maybe we really will have a new dual-screen emulation handheld to check out following Gamescom. Apparently Yoniq will be attending the event, so we’ll be sure to provide more information about the Yoniq Duo once it’s made available.
