Those who have been asking for an AYN Odin 2 Portal with updated internals have gotten their wish. Just last week, the AYN Odin 3 Portal was formally announced, with the company sharing a variety of teaser images and videos leading up to the launch.

Pre-orders open for AYN’s latest flagship handheld at 9:30 PM ET (6:30 PM PT), with prices starting at $399 for the Odin 3 Portal Base. When the pricing and release details were initially revealed, there were only three configurations to choose from.

However, AYN requested feedback from the community about a potential 1TB option, and as a result, there’s now a 16GB/1TB “Max” variant available. Here’s how pricing shakes out across the board:

This will come in particularly handy for those who plan to make use of software like Armada, once it becomes available. But it also will obviously be helpful even if you stick with Android and rely on apps like Droid Deck and/or GameNative for your PC gaming.

Many kind of expected AYN to match the internals of the Odin 3 Portal with the original Odin 3, and that’s exactly what we have. Unfortunately, there is no “Ultra” variant to speak of, at least not for the time being, but we hope that the current climate in the tech space will change that in the near future. Still, I wouldn’t hold my breath for an Odin 3 Portal Ultra, as the 1TB Max variant is probably the best that we’re going to get for the time being.

Beyond that, the only major difference between the Odin 2 Portal and Odin 3 Portal, besides the horsepower boost is the battery life. AYN managed to squeeze a 9,000mAh battery into the Odin 3 Portal, an increase of 1,000mAh over its predecessor, all while keeping the weight (450g) the same.

Unfortunately, for some at least, this also means that AYN is apparently sticking with the design from the Odin 2 Portal. Ergonomics are a fickle thing, so expect to see feedback from both sides of the fence once the Odin 3 Portal makes its way into the hands of reviewers and the general public. On the bright side, AYN is releasing a TPU grip to help alleviate ergonomic concerns, which may help make or break the experience.

Available Accessories
