Many of the rumors pointed to Valve revealing the price for the Steam Machine this week, and they were right. Pricing details and the ability to join the Steam Machine waitlist are now available. Here’s how the pricing shakes out:
- 512GB: $1049
- 512GB w/ Steam Controller: $1128
- 2TB: $1349
- 2TB w/ Steam Controller: $1428
Although eye-watering, those prices fall in line with what many were expecting, given the ongoing memory and storage shortages. However, we have to imagine it’s not exactly what Valve had in mind when it originally unveiled the Steam Machine in late 2025.
As for the waitlist, Valve has also provided details on how it will work once pre-orders are opened:
Join the list any time before June 25th at 10 a.m. PT. On that date, the list will be closed and randomized, and you will receive an email with your results shortly after.
So instead of a “first-come, first-served” approach as we’ve seen in the past, anyone who registers between now and June 25th will have their name thrown into a hat. Then, the “winners” will be selected randomly, before being provided with an opportunity to purchase the Steam Machine. Plus, Valve is making it so you actually choose the specific “config” that you want when signing up, as opposed to everyone signing up for all models.
As an aside, according to The Verge, Valve is making it easier than ever to use SteamOS as your primary operating system:
Valve says that “starting with the SteamOS 3.8 release, you can put together your own Steam Machine using whatever PC parts you want.” SteamOS 3.8.10 launched last week with a slew of updates, including “improved compatibility with recent Intel and AMD platforms.” Alongside that improved compatibility, Valve is giving gamers the green light to install SteamOS on their own desktops.
Lastly, those wondering if Valve would also reveal pricing and availability for the Steam Frame will have to wait a bit longer.
