Showcased for the first time in a video from just five days ago, the Anbernic RG 55G1 aims to be Anbernic’s first forray into the Snapdragon field of handhelds. At least, that was the speculation up until Geekbench 6 scores showed up online, showcasing not just the 55G1’s performance, but also more of the specs list than what we knew before.

Looking first at the provided Geekbench Scores, the RG 55G1 lands a 986 in single core performance and a 2198 in multicore. This lands the processor right between something like the Snapdragon 695 and the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 found in something like the Retroid Pocket Classic. Looking further down we can see additional information including the 3.4 GB of ram listed, as well as this being an 8 core processor, but we also see the processor name QTI SM4450. Which with a quick google search leads us directly to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2.
Searching for Geekbench GPU scores for the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 lead us to lower GPU scores in the low 400 range, however if this is anything like the Retroid Pocket Classic, we could see more performance than what benchmarks may suggest, especially with general quality of life improvements from having Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU drivers.
Paired with analog triggers, dual sticks in the dualshock layout, and a 5.5″ display, the RG 55G1 is looking to be a premium looking device, at what many hope could be a lower price. For those looking to stream games this could also wind up being a good option as Snapdragon chips generally end up having lower encoding times compared to its alternatives. But for now we just have to wait for handheld performance confirmation. And wait for that country music to ring off Anbernic’s next video.
