In the wake of ever increasing prices, and a bunch of handheld plans changing due to ram shortages, or storage woes; one value has remained consistent this entire time. The base model AYN Odin 2 Portal has remained one of the better values in handhelds as of recently. For $260 (as low as $250), you’ve gotten a big beautiful 7″ OLED display, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is still enough to power through everything up to x86 emulation. For most this has been an endgame styled handheld if you could get with the ergonomics, but it’s been sold out in both the Pro and Max models. That means if you want it, you’re getting the smallest amount of storage, and the black colorway; at least until now.
As of this morning, Nicole over at the AYN team announced that, for a limited time you can buy the base model AYN 2 Portal in indigo as well as black! This was done to ensure they don’t waste the remaining shell materials they have in stock, but by doing this they can give you the option to get a cheaper, purple option. It’s limited stock according to them, so my assumption is that once it goes out of stock it is fully gone forever. That does NOT mean you should go buy one out of that Fear of Missing Out, but if you’ve been looking for a reason to grab a Portal, and that Indigo color was it, this may be your way in.
I’m happy to see that AYN is still offering the Portal, especially with the discontinuation of both the Odin 2 Mini, and Odin 2 Classic, but at this point I do have to wonder how much longer they can do that with the current prices they’ve set. Until we figure that out, we’ll simply just have to see.
