It hasn’t even been a full week yet, and Anbernic is already back to show off a bit more for its upcoming dual-screen handheld. This morning, the company dropped its RG DDS First Look video, not just giving us a look at a prototype of the handheld, but also an array of gameplay.
As we’d have expected, much of the video focuses on 3DS gameplay via Azahar Plus, with three of the five games being played at 3X resolution, and two more played at 5X. Then, Wii U gameplay via Cemu is kind of shared, but you can’t really tell how well the game is running as both the top and bottom screens are blurred out completely.
From there, the video goes shows off games from the PS3, XBOX, GameNative, PS2, before rounding out with an Android game. Here’s a list of all of the games that were played during the Anbernic RG DDS “First Look:”
- 3DS – Azahar Plus
- Pokemon Ultra Sun (3X)
- Resident Evil: Revelations (3X)
- Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (3X)
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (5X)
- Kirby: Triple Deluxe (5X)
- Wii U – Cemu
- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
- PS3 – ARMSX3
- Saint Seiya: Sanctuary Battle
- PC/Steam – GameNative
- ACE COMBAT 7: SKIES UNKNOWN
- XBOX – X1 BOX
- Panzer Dragoon Orta
- PS2 – NetherSX2: 3X
- God of War II
- Android
- Zenless Zone Zero
Although the emulators don’t have the FPS counter enabled, looking at the bottom screen shows that each game is being played at a stable 60 FPS. This is courtesy of Anbernic’s redesigned interface for the Control Center, which shows a number of metrics, and a series of quick toggles that are at your disposal.
If anything this was just Anbernic’s opportunity to showcase the power of the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, a chip that we haven’t seen since the Retroid Pocket G2. And at least based on what we see in the video, Anbernic’s second Qualcomm-powered handheld will be quite an enjoyable experience.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any more details shared about the RG DDS, so we’re still left wondering when the handheld will actually be released. We recently learned that the price will likely come in around $300, putting the RG DDS in competition with the Pocket Duo and Thor Lite. It will be interesting to see how these three dual-screen handhelds stack up and perform against one another once we can get them in our hands.

I just don’t get spending $250+ to play 15 year old retro games?
90 percent of retro games are junk.
9 percent are nostalgia games (which is fine).
1 percent are still actually worth playing.
But, really, almost (keyword: almost) every retro game has been superseded by better updated gameplay today. Pick a game type, and there are dozens of NEW games done better. With updated controls, and new fresh gameplay mechanics, that are just more engaging and interesting to play.
Why are you here then?
This guys has to be 12
Jack, I’m sorry you feel this way. Maybe gaming just isn’t the hobby for you. Maybe reading literature or watching movies would be a better option for you. I’ll keep this brief, but take Resident evil 1 or Metal gear solid. Without those masterpieces we wouldn’t have resident evil 10 today, or MGS5. Older games show the steps it took to get to today. Hopefully, you can find something like FF6, Chrono trigger, or something that can move you.
Jack it sounds like you need a modern handheld not a retro handheld 😂
