If you thought that the Retroid Pocket Duo series was the last time we’d see a dual-screen handheld in 2026, you’d be mistaken. The Anbernic RG DDS has just been announced, aiming to offer yet another take on the DS form factor. But this time, it looks like Anbernic is looking to up the ante with its most powerful dual-screen handheld yet.
From the video that was released this morning, a few of the key RG DDS specs have been confirmed. Here’s what we know so far:
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2
- Main Screen: 4.7-inch | 1200 x 720 | 300 ppi | 500 nits
- Second Screen: 4-inch | 960 x 720 | 300 ppi | 500 nits
- Battery: 6,000mAh

We also might have caught a glimpse of at least one of the RAM options for the RG DDS. When showing off the newly-redesigned Control Center, the RAM usage bar shows “7.20GB”, suggesting that the G2 Gen 2 will be paired with at least 8GB of RAM.
With the screens, both the top and bottom screens are perfectly upscaled at 3x compared to the original 3DS. And with the G2 Gen 2 at the helm, we should be able to actually play games at the higher resolution without much of a hitch.
As for the overall design, Anbernic seems to be sticking with its recent trend of releasing handhelds that closely resemble original hardware. We saw it with the RG SP and the RG DS Plus, and that trend looks to continue with the RG DDS, looking almost identical to a New 3DS.

Anbernic also listened to feedback following the RG DS Plus and redesigned the included stylus. Not only can it be extended after taken out of the handheld, but this new one also features a mesh-tip, which is a welcome addition.
The biggest downside to this announcement is that we don’t yet know the price nor when the Anbernic RG DDS will actually be released. Hopefully, the wait isn’t too long, because this might just end up as being the best 3DS replacement handheld on the market.
