After a rocky launch that left many writing off the Anbernic RG DS out of the gate, the device has rebounded quite a bit since. This was helped by the likes of Gamma and ROCKNIX picking up the pieces of a lackluster software experience and offering more reliable alternatives to Anbernic’s Android build. However, Anbernic surprised many when it released a Linux build for the RG DS earlier this year, and now, the company is back with an update to version 1.1.
Besides the usual bug fixes and general stability improvements, this latest build of Anbernic Linux for the RG DS includes updates for the built-in Nintendo DS and PSP emulators. Notably, Anbernic has added “Vulkan backend support” for PSP titles, which should greatly improve performance on the Rockchip RK3568 chipset.
That’s not all, however, as Anbernic has added a feature that’s been missing since its RG DS Linux build launched. With version 1.1, you can finally turn off whatever screen isn’t being used, which reduces potential display issues, and should help improve battery life.
The update is available to download from Google Drive via the button below. It’s a hefty build, weighing in at almost 2GB, which also means that you’ll need to re-flash the OS to a microSD card. Just make sure you back up everything of importance first, before proceeding with installing the update.
