In about five days, the Retroid Pocket Duo will officially begin shipping to those who pre-ordered one. If you’re still on the fence about picking up the Duo, Stubbs and Rob the Retro Tech Dad jumped on a livestream for an unboxing and to share their first impressions. True to form, the guys went through just about everything you could think of during the stream, giving us a pretty good idea of what to expect.

It’s been a rather tumultuous month or so since the Duo was announced, but as long as retail units deliver the same experience as what we saw today, then everyone should be pretty happy. If anything, it kind of makes the decision even more difficult for those who have been on the fence but might prefer the idea of the Pocket Duo Lite Plus with its in-line shoulders and trigger buttons.

It”s fairly obvious that even with Retroid’s decision to go with a completely brand new processor (relatively speaking), this could be the best budget-friendly option for 3DS emulation. Not to mention that all of this is coming right after Anbernic announced, and opened pre-orders for, the RG DDS. That handheld is powered by the Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, and will offer a bit more oomph, but it’s also not being released until December and is more expensive than the Retroid Pocket Duo.

Even still, there’s no such bad thing as having too many options, and there’s no better time than now to check out a dual-screen handheld. Oh, and if you want to get a more in-depth look at what the Retroid Pocket Duo brings to the table, check out Mr. Retro Game Corps video above.
