It’s been a little while since the Anbernic RG Vita and RG Vita Pro were released, with the latter offering a dual-boot experience between Linux and Android. However, Anbernic doesn’t have the greatest track record with offering a reliable and optimized Android experience. Thankfully, Gamma is here to save the day, as GammaOS Next v1.3 is now available for the RG Vita Pro.

While this is definitely exciting for owners of the RG Vita Pro, there’s even more reason to be excited if you own other GammaOS-compatible handhelds. That’s because this marks the first release of GammaOS Nano, described as being a “brand-new boot-to-game experience.”

With GammaOS Nano, you’re able to skip past waiting for the Android OS to actually load and instead can just boot right into RetroArch or DraStic. Of course, the benefit here is just being able to pick up your games where you left off, without fiddling with anything.

Best of all, unlike previous releases of GammaOS, which required you to either be a Patreon subscriber or wait for a public release, GammaOS for the RG Vita Pro is available NOW. Check out the full changelog below, and then head over to GitHub and download the latest build for your RG Vita Pro.

GammaOS Next for RG Vita Pro

  • GammaOS Nano – boot straight into RetroArch or DraStic in seconds (hold Power -> Boot Nano)
  • Native OTA updates from ota.gammaos.sh (Lite and Full channels)
  • GammaPad – ultra-low-latency gamepad daemon with per-app profiles
  • GammaOS Toolbox – one app for shaders, profiles, and all the GammaOS knobs
  • GammaShader + GammaEQ + GammaRGB – CRT/LCD shaders, system EQ, reactive joystick LEDs
  • Factory overclock – A72 @ 2304 MHz, GPU @ 1100 MHz, up to +33.6% throughput under sustained load
  • GammaEQ: System-wide audio equalizer with improved output tuning and per-profile support.
  • GammaRGB: In-process SurfaceFlinger sampler for joystick LED reactive lighting that matches on-screen colours.
  • Bluetooth reliability fix: Resolved a stuck-scanning issue on RG Vita Pro caused by ueventd not applying permissions to /dev/ttyS6 before the serial node appeared. Bluetooth pairing and auto-reconnect now work reliably out of the box.
  • Platform fixes: Numerous bug fixes on top of the Android 14 / LineageOS 21 base, including input, audio, sleep/resume, and WiFi stability improvements.
