UPDATE – 6/25 1 PM ET: In the wee hours of the morning, AYANEO announced that it is hosting a “launch livestream” over on the company’s YouTube channel. It also revealed another important bit of information about the Pocket MICRO 2, including that it will feature a 3.5-inch LCD screen. In all likelihood, this is probably the same screen that we saw in the original Pocket Micro and the Pocket Micro Classic.

AYANEO’s launch livestream will kick off tomorrow morning at 8 AM ET, and hopefully, it’ll be at least be available for pre-order, if not outright released.

UPDATE – 6/24: Since the last update, AYANEO has continued trickling out information about the upcoming Pocket MICRO 2. First, the company shared that the MICRO 2 will feature a “large-size shoulder button design”, offering a slightly different in-line button shoulder design over its predecessors.

Keeping with the button trend, AYANEO confirmed that the MICRO 2 offers “bigger” and “Enhanced D-pad and ABXY buttons.” This is definitely something I’m excited for as buttons on devices like the Pocket S Mini or Pocket VERT are just too small to use comfortably.

The most recent update about the Pocket MICRO 2 gives us our first “real world” images of the upcoming handheld. It shows off the D-pad, ABXY buttons, joysticks, and shoulder buttons. It also seemingly confirms that the handheld will be a bit curvier than the original Pocket Micro, which should make for a more comfortable gaming experience.

UPDATE: 6/22/2026: Even more features and deteails of the AYANEO Pocket MICRO 2 have been revealed. These include the use of TMR joysticks, along with a “Full-Featured” USB-C port being joined by a 3.5mm Audio Jack and built-in microphone.

UPDATE 6/16/2026: AYANEO is trickling out information regarding its upcoming Pocket MICRO 2 handheld, with new tidbits of details being shared seemingly every day.

Since the original announcment, AYANEO has revealed that the Pocket MICRO 2 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. As seen in the post on X, the tagline for this is “a major leap forward for retro gaming performance.

Within the last 30 minutes of the writing of this update, the company returned to reveal that the Pocket MICRO 2 will feature a 3,950mAh battery. This is 52% larger than the 2,600mAh cell found in the two previous Pocket Micro iterations.

Almost a month ago, AYANEO formerly announced the KONKR Pocket Block, a pocketable vertical handheld powered by Android. Tonight, the company made a surprise announcement of the AYANEO Pocket MICRO 2, calling it a “Gen 2 Powerhouse” and “Retro’s New Icon.”

No further details were provided, but given the announcement, I wouldn’t be surprised if we wake up tomorrow to a showcase livestream being scheduled. If we’re taking the post at face value, it seems that AYANEO is ready to launch the MICRO 2, so maybe we’ll just get a blog post and a new listing on the online storefront.

The original AYANEO Pocket Micro was launched back in September 2024, after being initially announced alongside the Pocket DMG as part of the REMAKE series. At the time, the Pocket Micro offered one of the best experiences for those wanting a premium 3:2 retro handheld. Since then, the handheld market has changed quite a bit, but the Pocket Micro remains a fan-favorite.

Fast forward to February 2025, and AYANEO followed it up with the Pocket Micro Classic, sporting the same design and specs as its predecessor, just without the dual joysticks. It was also $10 less expensive, providing a bit of an incentive to go with the stick-less version if you didn’t want to try and mod the original Pocket Micro.

So far, there’s been no indication as to what this new Pocket Micro 2 could have to offer. Both of the previous models were powered by the MediaTek Helios G99, the same chip that’s found in the AYANEO Pocket AIR Mini. If this is truly a “Gen 2 Powerhouse,” then it’s probably fairly likely that we’ll see a different processor at the helm.

We’ll just have to wait for AYANEO to share the rest of the details, and hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait.

Share.
