After a first half of the year that was pretty quiet, Anbernic is picking up the pace a bit. The Anbernic RG DS Plus has been officially revealed, giving us a glimpse at what the company’s latest Nintendo DS/DSi clone will offer.

Seeing as this is just the first teaser video, Anbernic didn’t reveal the entire spec-sheet for the RG DS Plus. But it did confirm that the handheld features dual 4.3-inch screens, each with a 1024 x 768 resolution, offering “4x Pixel Perfect Scaling” for Nintendo DS games.

That being said, Anbernic rep, Wild Lee apparently confirmed that the RG DS Plus will be powered by the same Rockchip RK3568 from the RG DS. That might be a disappointment to some, but going with a Linux-first approach paired with other system refinements should make for an enjoyable experience.

The overall design looks much more rounded compared to the Anbernic RG DS, and that apparently includes a “redesigned hinge structure.” Anbernic claims it will be stronger and smoother, and while the RG DS doesn’t have a bad hinge, per se, I will appreciate the RG DS being smoother to open.

Anbernic also seems to have learned the error of its ways, as the RG DS Plus will be a Linux-first device, which should make for a much better experience than trying to shoehorn Android here. Not only that, but we’ll also apparently have a new DS emulator to tinker with, as NNDDSS will make its debut with the RG DS Plus.

Last, but not least, Anbernic shared that the RG DS Plus will include an “Integrated Capacitive Stylus,” which is housed on the right side of the handheld when not in use. Beyond that, the RG DS Plus will come in three different colors, and hopefully, we’ll see more colors down the line.

Oh, and there’s one more thing. When perusing the RG DS Plus thread on the RH Discord this morning, Wild Lee confirmed that it will be priced “below 100usd.” Considering that the RG DS retails for $99.99 (directly from Anbernic), it’s probably safe to say that it won’t be long before that RG DS Plus replaces it in Anbernic’s lineup.
