In case you haven’t been following the mobile app scene for over a decade and a half, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies was a huge mobile game put on iOS back in 2011 and Android in 2012. Unfortunately, just like a lot of mobile apps from years ago, it was eventually delisted from the Play Store and App Store due to the usual culprits; age. lack of updates to help compatibility with more up to date systems, and in general; likely Google and Apple just being the roadblock from keeping it up longer. Well wait no longer! Because it seems like one dev is currently working to help port this game to all of your Linux handhelds.

Enter Producdevity; someone we’ve seen around the scene for a long time thanks to their work in tools like Gamehub Lite and Emuready. This time around though, he’s showing off his work in porting COD: Black Ops Zombies to Portmaster; at least in developmental state. Originally released two weeks ago, the “COD BOZ PortMaster Loader” was released to his Github page, which shared the steps on taking your entirely, legally obtained APK for Zombies, putting it into his loader, and building it yourself. Once that was done, he even provided a script that would deploy your package to systems like muOS or Knulli.

Sound too daunting at first? Well that’s where the good news comes in. Just five days ago, Producdevity also put out a CODBOZ Initial Test Build over on his Github as well. Clearly labeled as a Pre-Release for those curious, this makes the system a lot simpler. You simply take your APK, and place it right into the folder listed in his instructions “ports/codboz/apk/game.apk”. He does note that this will take about 15-20 minutes on the initial build. So you can take your time, grab a snack and drink, and come back to it later. He also notes that it’s been primarily tested on muOS, but I assume you’ll be able to try on other systems to help check compatibility.

It’s awesome to see more ports like this coming to systems like Anbernic’s XX line, and hopefully it hits the huge number of A133P, 3566, and 3326 handhelds eventually as well. Once given the chance, I think most people should give this one a try to see how well it works as more constructive feedback is always a good thing. And as always, be sure to checkout Producdevity’s GitHub page for more information, more details, and more information on his other awesome projects.
