It looks like Anbernic is getting ready to launch the RG477V, according to leaks. An unconfirmed spec sheet shows the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 powering the handheld, putting it in the same category as Anbernic’s well-liked 477M, and less well-liked 557. The sheet indicates configurations of either 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage or a higher-end model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The device should also come equipped with a 4.7-inch 120Hz screen running at 1280 x 960 pixels, making it another device capable of BFI and CRT Beam Simulation, a new obsession in the community. The 477V will also be powered by a 5300 mAh battery, identical to the 477M.
The Anbernic 477V will follow a familiar design language, consisting of two analog sticks, a standard button array, and a large screen with small bezels. As with other recent Anbernic designs, there looks to be LED accent lighting included, and according to early images, the front panel will be made entirely of glass, which, while very attractive, can easily break and will attract fingerprints.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and it should ship with Android 14 installed. Pricing is listed at 1599 Yuan, which would be approximately $229. The price point would put it in competition with some truly beast-mode horizontal handhelds; however, within the vertical space, it would be easily the most powerful Android-based handheld available.
If the rumors are true, then the Anbernic 477V will be a relatively rare example of a device attempting to pair premium features with a compact, vertical form factor (a preferred format for many players, but one that most manufacturers have failed to address adequately). For those looking for a powerful handheld that is still portable enough to hold in one hand, this could be a product worth keeping an eye on.
