Anbernic has finally announced the price of its upcoming handheld, the RG476H. It will retail for $164.99, and will be discounted to $149.99 for the first three days.
In his recent first impressions video, a friend of RH, Russ from Retro Game Corps, described the device as strangely familiar. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The device might best be described as the innards of the RG406H, with the screen from the RG477M in a shell which is strangely reminiscent of Retroid devices like the Retroid Pocket Mini and the Retroid Pocket 5.
Price and Release Date
Anbernic has announced that they will sell the device for $165; however, the price will be reduced to $150 for the first three days. As with all devices bought directly from the Anbernic store, shipping (including any tariff costs) will be charged on top of that.
While Anbernic hasn’t yet formally announced the time and date at which the device will go on sale, the timer on the storefront seems to indicate that the device will go on sale at 3 am PDT on Friday, September 19.
Anbernic RG476H What You’re Getting
As mentioned at the top of this article, the RG476H is best thought of as an RG406H with the screen of the RG477M. This is one of the best-selling points of the RG477M with its 4.7-inch, 4:3, 120Hz screen with perfect integer scaling for most home consoles.
So with the RG476H, it looks to some like an improvement of the RG406H. The RG476H will also retail for a couple of dollars cheaper than the RG406H, although both will be reduced to $150 during the sale period. Ultimately, this will likely make the RG476H the more attractive purchase of the two.
Performance-wise, the device should run many PS2 and GameCube games, either at native resolution or upscaled, and will have no problem with any systems less powerful than those 6th Gen Systems. Dreamcast, Saturn, PS1, and below should make full use of the screen, running games fully upscaled, with any desired heavyweight shaders applied, and maybe even Black Frame Insertion.
