The Anbernic RG 55G1 has probably been one of the longer development times for an Anbernic product in a long while. Originally discussed by Andrew back in June, the most we got back then were leaked Geekbench scores. Seeing 4gb of ram and a Snapdragon processor was an interesting decision, but one that we could at least speculate on. Since then the most we’ve recieved in terms of proper information has been their usual gameplay videos. Luckily though, that all seems to end for us, as Anbernic has finally dropped both their unboxing video, and the specs lineup for the Anbernic RG 55G1. And just in time too, as Russ revealed he got his as well over on Twitter.
Alongside their official unboxing showing off two really good colors, and a third that’s just meh we got the full range of specs for the the RG 55G1, and it’s almost like some people have been calling it for a few months now. To keep things easier, you can catch the main gist of the 55G1 below.
- CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon G1 Gen 2
- GPU: Qualcomm Adreno A12
- Ram: 4 or 8GB
- Storage: 64 or 128GB
- 5.5″, 1920×1080 IPS Display
- Android 14
- Wifi 5 + Bluetooth 5
- 6,000mAh Battery w/ 18 watt Charging
- 339~ Grams
Going off a few notes here, it’s interesting to see the inclusion of an 8gb model considering the initial geekbench scores only showed the 4gb unit in them. Maybe they changed something along the way, but hopefully this just means we might see a cheaper variant of the 55G1 instead of having to climb prices even further for less. Alongside that, we’ve seen what the G1 Gen 2 can do as it’s the CPU powering everyone’s favorite vertical; the Retroid Pocket Classic. This at least gives us a better idea of what the 55G1 can do, but we’ll just have to hope it doesn’t collide too much with higher end options.
As of now the last thing we need is the pricing. A lot are hoping for around $150, with my speculation landing closer to $170-$180 as that’s one of the few price points Anbernic doesn’t actively have a current product in outside of their website. As always I hope I’m wrong and it’s lower, but until they tell us, it’s all down to speculation.
