According to Russ from Retro Game Corps, the Retroid Pocket Dual Screen add-on may once again be compatible with the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro.

We reported earlier this week that Retroid had made an announcement that the RP4 Pro would not be compatible with the new Dual Screen add-on that is currently being delivered to gamers’ doorsteps. However, a new video from Retro Game Corps claims that the add-on will once again work with the RP4 Pro alongside fully supporting the Retroid Pocket 5 and Mini.

Compatible Once Again

Before, the issue with the add-on was based in the device utilizing a MediaTek chipset and the chipset posing timing and performance issues with the dual screen add-on making it unusable. The issue was so intrinsic to the overall development of the accessory that the company began dolling out refunds to expectant customers who may have preordered the device, but only had a Retroid Pocket 4 ordered on their accounts.

According to Russ, in a new video highlighting the latency improvements the company has ushered out over an OTA update, he drops a slight mention that he has been in contact with Retroid via Discord and received word that the RP4 Pro issue actually is fixable and will be supplied via an OTA update.

This does go directly against what the company had announced mere days ago. Retroid announcements are typically reserved for bigger news like announcements, changes, shipping notices and the like, so the one for the RP4 Pro seemed to be large enough to warrant immediate communication between the company and its community to disclose the issue ahead of time. To date, there still hasn’t been an announcement on the change being found, the fix rolling out, or the fix even existing at all.

Working in Due Time

Russ from Retro Game Corps has been a constant and consistent source for news over the past five years. Be it directly from manufacturers, developers, or even speaking for the retro community at large, he has continued to be a bridge between those who buy the products, those who develop for them, and those who create them. Here, it seems his connection has given us news that benefits all three. Being able to finally use the Dual Screen add-on on the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro would result in more people using the accessory, but also a wider spread of those being able to test and utilize it in new, exciting ways.

We’ll be keeping our ear close to the ground as new developments are made in this Retroid Pocket 4 Pro issue affecting the Dual Screen add-on. But short of any miscommunication, the news that it is going to work with the RP4 Pro in due time is well accepted.
