Taki Udon has announced plans to release the “Super Switch Lite.”
YouTuber-turned-OLED-screen manufacturer Taki Udon has announced his forthcoming project, and it’s one that is significantly more ambitious than his projects to date: a “Super Switch” with a significant screen upgrade.

In the middle of 2024, Taki Udon surprised a number of people in the community (including the author of this article) when he decided to address a perceived weakness in the Nintendo Switch Lite by introducing a screen replacement called the SUPER5. The SUPER5 was an OLED screen with an increased color gamut (compared to the Switch Lite’s standard screen) alongside the traditional features of an OLED, which include things such as richer colors and deeper blacks.
The SUPER5 came in 2 configurations, with or without touch input, and was able to be bought with a bunch of accessories, including high-quality replacement shells and drop-in hall-stick replacement joycons for upgrades across the system. Prior to shipping, in an email sent to SUPER5 backers, Taki seemed to indicate he was quality assuring each panel himself.
The SUPER5, however, was a product that seemed designed to court controversy. Initially, it was meant to be part of a bundle including a mod which would bring HDMI output to the Nintendo Switch Lite; however, this mod had not been released to date, and buyers were encouraged to contact the manufacturer to request a partial refund in order to move to a lesser SUPER5 bundle configuration.
Upon launch, the SUPER5 was not always well-received. While the non-touch variant was able to be installed by many members of the community, the touch variant, which would be required in order to maintain compatibility with many Switch games, required a much more challenging installation process.
This process appeared easy to mess up and I saw posts on both Discord and social media sites where buyers were complaining they had troubles fitting the screen properly or finding then were unable to screw the Switch Lite case back together in an even manner following installation. Worse still, many people in the RH Discord judged the SUPER5 Touch Edition to be incompatible with a Switch Lite Modchip.
Fellow RH writer Mikhailov from Team Retrogue had significant issues with his installation, which he detailed in a video, and then later found problems with the return policy when he encountered a potential fault.
Taki’s New Announcement: The Super Switch Lite

This brings us up to today’s announcement of the Super Switch Lite. In a post to his YouTube channel, Taki has announced that, once all the SUPER5 products are in mass production, he will start work on a prototype, having previously mentioned the product on a roadmap.
Based on his post, it looks to RH like this will be a replacement shell into which a Switch Lite will be inserted. Based on the images Taki shared, the Super Switch’s shell will be a deal larger, perhaps coming closer to the size of the Switch 1 with Joy-Cons attached.
Taki has announced that the Super Switch Lite will have the following features:
- A 6-inch screen with a 1440p resolution
- A 6000 mAh battery
- Hall Sensor Joysticks
- Improved audio
Based on his reply to a posted comment, Taki has indicated the choice of a 1440p resolution is due to the fact that “Good 1440p exist in this size” (indicating that it isn’t the case with other resolutions). He also pointed out that a 1440p screen would be a 2x integer upscale of the Switch Lite’s original display, which appears to indicate the Super Switch will provide this upscaling functionality.
Speaking from personal opinion, a modded Switch Lite running Android is this author’s favorite way to play emulation on a “jacket pocket” sized device, and my love of the Switch Lite means I’ll personally be following the progression of this project closely.
