Announced at CES, LG and Microsoft will partner up to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to a yet unnamed number of LG Smart TVs through the manufacturer’s recently announced LG Gaming Portal service.
The announcement promises LG TV owners streaming access to the full Xbox Game Pass Ultimate streaming library, with promised support for select personally owned titles to follow. LG and Xbox have yet to announce specific device or region support, with a release date for the partnership still pending at the time of the announcement.
“We are thrilled to announce the partnership with Xbox, which aims to enrich the gaming experience on LG Smart TVs with a broader selection of popular games,” said Chris Jo, senior vice president of platform business at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “The Gaming Portal will provide users with a seamless, convenient and exciting way to enhance the gaming experience on LG Smart TVs.” – LG
The LG partnership comes as no surprise, as Microsoft aggressively launched it’s “This is an XBOX” marketing campaign in 2024. Previous reports of a possible Microsoft streaming stick have been all but dashed, as it appears clear that the focus will be continuing to roll the Xbox ecosystem into more and more existing platforms.
With the Gaming Portal, it will be interesting to see whether we see more game streaming services arrive on LG TVs. Hopefully, we’ll be able to check out what it looks like and some idea about performance while we’re on the showroom floor.
