Are you ready for more handhelds? Well, we certainly hope so because it looks like Lenovo is set to kick off the new year with a bang. Just today, we’ve learned a bit more about the budget-friendly Lenovo Legion Go S, and just a short time later, details and renders emerged about the next flagship Legion Go.
CES 2025 is just a few weeks away, at which point we’re expecting to learn about the next wave of gaming handhelds. With the MSI Claw 8 AI+ already announced, the stars are aligning for Lenovo to be the “belle of the ball.”
Although we’ve already seen renders of the Legion Go S, new renders surfaced today, revealing even more details. Notably, the latest renders seem to confirm that the Go S will be available in two different colors, but that’s not the fun part. What is fun is that this could be the first third-party handheld to be running SteamOS out of the box.
Fueling the speculation is a dedicated Steam button found on the right side of the handheld. However, muddying the waters a bit is that the Steam button doesn’t appear on leaked renders of the Go S in white. As noted by The Verge, it’s entirely possible that Lenovo releases two different iterations — one running Windows, and the other running SteamOS.
That wasn’t the only handheld that was leaked today, as Evan Blass also gave us our first supposed look at the successor to the Lenovo Legion Go. In the renders provided to The Verge, Lenovo will be sticking with the unique design of its first Windows handheld, complete with the Switch-like detachable controllers. It also appears that with the detachable controllers, “FPS mode” will also make its return, which is one of the more unique ways to play games.
Although none of the specs for this new Legion Go were revealed, there’s mounting evidence that Lenovo could make the switch from LCD to OLED. All while still offering one of the larger screens on a Windows handheld at 8.8 inches. However, it’s also possible that we will see two versions of the Legion Go 2, as Lenovo could offer potential buyers their choice of screen.
Unfortunately, we still don’t know much about the “meat and potatoes” of Lenovo’s next offering. This includes whether it will be powered by AMD’s rumored Z2 Extreme, nor do we know if the battery life will be able to compete with the ROG Ally X.
With CES 2025 just a few weeks away, we suspect that the leaks will continue rolling out. So keep an eye on the site, as we’ll share whatever information we have, as soon as it’s made available.
