Yesterday, we reported on a rumor that Retroid was gearing up to release a new handheld or that it would have some type of announcement today. Of course, that led to many (myself included) trying to figure out whether we were in store for a new Pocket Flip or Pocket Mini. As it turns out, there is a “new” handheld that was announced, as the Retroid Pocket 6 is again available with 12GB of RAM.

New RP6 12+128GB Stick Top Configuration Available!

We’ve added a new RP6 12GB + 128GB configuration to our lineup.

Color Options:

  • Silver
  • 16Bit
  • Black

All color options are in stock and ready to ship!

However, this isn’t just Retroid bringing back the same options that we had before. There are two differences this time around, the first of which is that the “new” 12GB Pocket 6 includes just 128GB of onboard storage. As you might suspect, it’s also not the faster UFS 4.0 storage that was available with the initial release, but Retroid is now relying on UFS 3.1.

The other difference this time around is that you can no longer choose between having a D-pad or a stick in the top left. Instead, if you want the 12GB model, you can only get one with the stick in the top-left. There was no mention of whether this could change in the future, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the D-pad option becomes available at some point.

Lastly, those hoping to pick up the 12GB Pocket 6 in either Orange or Light Purple will be a bit disappointed. Retroid is skipping those color options this time around, which isn’t a huge deal, as the company is likely trying to cut down on the number of SKUs that it has to manage and manufacture.

On the bright side, you don’t have to wait around and deal with some kind of “pre-order” phase, as the 12GB model is “in stock and ready to ship.”
