It’s been a little while since we’ve really heard anything out of the Retroid camp, with the last major announcement coming back in March 2026. That was to announce price hikes and the discontinuation of the Retroid Pocket G2, two things that didn’t really catch many off guard. Even still, many have been wondering about the company’s for its next handheld release, and we might not have to wait much longer.
According to a shared screenshot over on the RH Discord, “a Retroid QQ chat mod teased an announcement for tomorrow…Could be a new handheld.” Of course, this resulted in a flurry of messages trying to guess what Retroid could have in store for its next device.

One message suggested (in jest, I think) that it was going to be the “Retroid Pocket 6 Dual Screen Attachment.” Another message later in the conversation says, “I’ll take no less than the Mini 2 with the mortgage screen I was promised.”
Frankly, given the current state of the market, Retroid could announce anything, and we’d be both excited and worried about where were corners cut to save on cost. Nevertheless, there are really only two devices that would make sense for Retroid to release, and that’s either an updated Pocket Mini or the Pocket Flip 3.
We all know about the trials and tribulations that Retroid put us through after the initial Pocket Mini release. However, ever since it was quietly discontinued following the “V2” screen revision, it remains one of the more sought-after handhelds. This could partially be due to similar devices launched since then, such as the Anbernic RG476H and AYANEO Pocket AIR Mini, both of which are smaller handhelds with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Then there’s the Retroid Pocket Flip 2, which was an immediate fan-favorite, and really kind of kicked off the clamshell handheld craze that continues today. Some have suggested that Retroid should just bump the specs, going from the Snapdragon 865 to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. While others have said that the Pocket Flip 3 should be a dual-screen handheld, even if the bottom screen is quite a bit smaller.
No matter what actually happens, it’ll be interesting to see what Retroid has been working on since its last major release. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that there actually is an announcement soon, even if it doesn’t end up being tomorrow.
Then again, it could just be announcing even higher prices for the existing lineup.
