The wishes have been granted! The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is officially arriving “this spring,” along with what appears to be a new vertical handheld.

Retroid first made the announcement over at the official Discord, simply revealing a fancy render of the Flip 2 with half of the second handheld covered. At first glance, it might look like Retroid would be releasing a smaller clamshell, similar to the RG35XXSP, but upon closer inspection, there’s no visible hinge. However, we won’t put the cart before the horse claiming it to be a regular vertical handheld.

It seems that Retroid paid close enough attention to our community poll to release the Pocket Flip 2 in the excellent GC color. That being said, Retroid is apparently making quite a few changes to the layout when compared to the original Pocket Flip.

Instead of the joystick sliders that were quite divisive, the render shows recessed joysticks, something that many of us were hoping to see. The Start, Select, Home, and Power buttons are all moved to the top, while the ABXY and D-pad are now closer together than the original model. On top of that, we have upward-firing speakers, and they seem to be positioned so your hands won’t cover them while playing games.

There are plenty of questions left unanswered, even if you were to completely ignore the second handheld. We still don’t know whether Retroid is using an OLED screen, nor do we know anything about the processor, RAM, or battery.

However, given how similar this looks to the “GC” RP5, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pocket Flip 2 shares most of the same specs, just with a different design. Hopefully, Retroid won’t leave us waiting for too long, especially since it plans to release these new handhelds in the spring.
