The MagicX Mini Zero 28 V2 is officially available for purchase. This updated version of the beloved mini handheld brings a handful of meaningful improvements while preserving everything that made the original a favorite in the retro gaming community.

The V2 Zero 28 keeps its compact form factor and core design, but introduces some much-needed refinements. Most notably, the USB-C ports are now properly flush with the shell.

This small change makes the device look and feel more polished and removes the slight awkwardness some users experienced with cable fitment on the first model. In the first version of the Zero 28, the ports were slightly recessed into the device, causing some USB-C cables with shorter connectors to charge only when precisely aligned within the port.

Another subtle but welcome upgrade: the D-pad and shoulder buttons have been improved to address feedback from users who felt the controls lacked optimal responsiveness. With the V2, MagicX is tackling that feedback head-on by offering a more tactile and satisfying experience, but it should be noted that most reviews of the original V1 of the handheld praised the D-pad and shoulder buttons for their overall tactile feel and improvements over the company’s XU Mini M.

MagicX also adjusted pricing of the Zero 28 to reflect the consistently changing tariffs in the US. As it stands now, the US customers will see an increase in tax from the 8% customers saw with the V1 to 15% for the new V2. MagicX’s storefront should, however, present customers with a final amount to be paid to avoid any seemingly random additional costs.

Aside from these specific enhancements, everything else remains unchanged, which is good news for fans who loved the original’s performance, screen, and overall design. The V2 is not a reinvention, but rather a thoughtful refinement.

If you’ve been holding off on picking up the Mini Zero 28 or were waiting for improved build quality, now is the time.
