We’ve already seen both Retroid and Anbernic provide updates regarding shipments to the US due to the tariff situation. Now, it seems that AYN is joining them, as an email from the Support team cropped up over in the Odin 2 Portal Discord channel.
According to the email, AYN will “pause for a week” after fulfilling orders up until April 25. From there, the company will “try to choose a new channel for shipping,” as it currently relies on either 4PX or DHL for orders.
This is obviously not great news, and technically, it’s not even an official statement from AYN directly. Browsing through the AYN Discord channel shows that staff members have been mentioned numerous times, only for those messages to seemingly fall on deaf ears. If anything, it further proves that companies and retailers are still trying to figure out how to traverse these unprecedented times.
Unlike AliExpress, Anbernic, and others, it doesn’t appear as though AYN has a US-based warehouse. So as a result, anything that you buy from the company gets shipped directly from China, meaning that the products will be subject to tariffs, which are set to increase on May 2.
Something else that throws a wrench into this entire situation is that the Odin 2 Portal is considered by many to be the best Android handheld. While it’s not the only option out there, it strikes a unique balance between cheaper handhelds and the x86 options. All three Portal 2 models offer an excellent gaming experience, with each option bringing something different to the table.
So, what can you do if you planned on ordering something from AYN? Well, there’s still time before the imposed deadline of April 25, so you can try and get your order squeezed in before then. Otherwise, you’ll likely need to turn to the used market, such as the RH Marketplace, Facebook Marketplace, eBay, or Mercari.
There’s no telling when or even if this situation will be resolved. For now, all we can hope for is that AYN and others are able to figure out how to make these devices readily available again.
