While the Android and retro handheld market sees new releases on a daily basis, the same can’t be said about the Windows handheld scene. However, Ayaneo made a surprise announcement as the company released a video teasing the upcoming launch of the Ayaneo 3.
The video lasts for all of about 40 seconds, confirming the name of its next device before cutting to another screen that just says “Annual Flagship Handheld Coming Soon.” There’s nothing to glean from the description of the video either, as it only says “This is not only a handheld device, but also AYANEO innovation in defining its own product!”
This announcement comes at an interesting time, as Ayaneo recently announced that both the Pocket EVO and Pocket DMG would be delayed. Instead of shipping near the beginning of November, the timeline has been pushed back to the end of November.
It’s also interesting thanks to the fact that Ayaneo recently released the 8840U versions of both the Ayaneo 2S and Kun on its digital storefront. Even still, much of the focus in 2024 has been on releasing a slew of high-end Android handhelds, such as the Pocket S and the Pocket Micro. However, one can only wonder whether Ayaneo wasn’t already over-extending itself, only to announce yet another handheld.
Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see what the Ayaneo 3 has to offer. Recently, Valve confirmed that it won’t be releasing an updated Steam Deck anytime soon, and we’re still keeping our eyes out for Lenovo’s Legion Go Lite. Despite the 2024 holiday season rapidly approaching, it’s a bit surprising to see that there haven’t been any other major Windows or x86 handheld announcements recently.
At least we now have the Ayaneo 3 to look forward to. Well, we hope that it’s something worth looking towards.
