Almost a month ago, AYANEO formerly announced the KONKR Pocket Block, a pocketable vertical handheld powered by Android. Tonight, the company made a surprise announcement of the AYANEO Pocket MICRO 2, calling it a “Gen 2 Powerhouse” and “Retro’s New Icon.”

No further details were provided, but given the announcement, I wouldn’t be surprised if we wake up tomorrow to a showcase livestream being scheduled. If we’re taking the post at face value, it seems that AYANEO is ready to launch the MICRO 2, so maybe we’ll just get a blog post and a new listing on the online storefront.

The original AYANEO Pocket Micro was launched back in September 2024, after being initially announced alongside the Pocket DMG as part of the REMAKE series. At the time, the Pocket Micro offered one of the best experiences for those wanting a premium 3:2 retro handheld. Since then, the handheld market has changed quite a bit, but the Pocket Micro remains a fan-favorite.

Fast forward to February 2025, and AYANEO followed it up with the Pocket Micro Classic, sporting the same design and specs as its predecessor, just without the dual joysticks. It was also $10 less expensive, providing a bit of an incentive to go with the stick-less version if you didn’t want to try and mod the original Pocket Micro.

So far, there’s been no indication as to what this new Pocket Micro 2 could have to offer. Both of the previous models were powered by the MediaTek Helios G99, the same chip that’s found in the AYANEO Pocket AIR Mini. If this is truly a “Gen 2 Powerhouse,” then it’s probably fairly likely that we’ll see a different processor at the helm.

We’ll just have to wait for AYANEO to share the rest of the details, and hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait.

Share.
