Due to the fall of Switch Emulator, Yuzu, and sister application for 3DS emulation, Citra, newer forks and dominating projects that carried the torch took every measure they could to avoid the wrath of the big ‘N’ by any means necessary, even changing the supported file structure.

Azahar is the current de facto 3DS emulator that distanced itself from its contemporaries by ceasing support for the .3ds file type altogether in favor of the .cci type. On the surface, this doesn’t seem like a big deal, but this also isn’t a simple conversion since 3DS titles require a pretty robust encryption and decryption method in order for them to be compatible with the emulator (At least for the normal method).

This also made anyone with an existing library of .3ds files nearly useless without extra processes and resulted in a divided community. Let’s face it, 3DS games are awesome, 3DS console prices are going up (again), and accessible emulation is a key asset to our community. And when the world needed them most, Azahar changed their mind.

Azahar: Update 2124.3

Catchy title. Azahar, in acknowledgement of the issues the community has been having with 3DS emulation, updated every version of the application to support .3ds files once again.

Azahar github

You can update Azahar through the official GitHub or by updating the Android application on Google Play. The update doesn’t do anything else, but now you can play your .3ds titles again in peace.
