Anbernic, fresh off the heels of the RG34XXSP release and RG Slide showcase, appears to be preparing for the release of a new device, the RG477M.
Leaked images from the company’s official QQ chatroom suggest a sleek, compact console with a premium metal body similar to the many M variants the company has released in the past. While Anbernic has yet to confirm its launch officially, the details revealed in the image provide exciting clues about what the retro handheld community might expect.
Analyzing the Leak
The RG477M is said to sport a 4.7-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 1280×960 resolution, a clear signal that Anbernic is targeting purists who prefer retro systems that originally output in 4:3. The resolution is also high enough to allow between 2x – 4x integer scaling for classic systems that originally output 240p or 480p, respectively.

Powering the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 8300, the same chip found in the RG557, Anbernic’s most recently released Android handheld. This chip, typically found in modern smartphones, is well-equipped for demanding emulation, potentially extending support up to PSP, Dreamcast, and even early 3D consoles like GameCube and PlayStation 2, depending on software optimization.
The image also reveals a familiar control layout, with dual analog sticks, a traditional D-pad, and Anbernic standard action buttons. The symmetrical design, anodized metal finish, and vent placement hint at a refined evolution of the company’s “M” series, which has always been praised for its build quality. Button and stick placement appear ergonomic, maintaining Anbernic’s design philosophy that balances retro aesthetics with modern usability.
Anbernic Keeps Truckin’
If this model follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, it could also support dual-booting of Linux and Android, giving users flexibility in their preferred operating system. USB-C charging, microSD support, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity are likely standard.

In short, the RG477M looks to continue Anbernic’s long-running tradition of mixing modernity with a primarily retro handheld focus. With over fifteen devices released since the beginning of 2024, Anbernic is somehow still managing to find new niches and playstyles to build devices for. Until Anbernic makes an official announcement, this leak offers a glimpse at what could be one of Anbernic’s most premium options for the upcoming year
