Jalanimal: Metaphor: ReFantazio

Metaphor: ReFantazio on ROG Ally X

I abandoned trying to run Metaphor on my Steam Deck and it is working flawlessly on the Rog Ally X. This game rocks. I never liked the Persona games because of the whole social life and being in high school aspect of the game. This game? It gets rid of that. There are still some social links, but I am not dating anyone so that is great.

The game is a Fantasy setting and I think it fits really well with what the series can offer. The monsters in the game are called Humans too, which is pretty cool, and they look wicked like most things in the series. I don’t want to spoil much of this game, but it is really awesome. I am already 15 hours in and it has felt like no time has passed.

Nick: Gunhouse

Gunhouse on the Nintendo Swtitch OLED

I’ve been playing short bursts of a game that passed me by when it was first released. Gunhouse is part tower defense game, and part puzzle block matching. The tiles you successfully arrange will turn into weapons to defend your castle from the invading hoards.

It’s a simple, but fun gameplay loop that makes for fun sessions to jump into on the couch. A bright color palette and street graffiti art style give this one a unique and vibrant look. The use of color splashes really adds to the gameplay moments. If you’re looking for something that you can quick pick up and play, Gunhouse is a great choice.

Zu: Mech Warrior 5 Clans

Final Fantasy Tactics on Odin 2 Mini

Even fine-tuned machines fall ill sometimes. When he isn’t grinding videos or completing GotX games, Zu is still playing, even while under the weather.

Dan W: Project Zero AKA Fatal Frame

Project Zero Fatal Frame on Steam Deck

Our 3 Games of the Month in the RH Discord were Koudelka (which I adored), Project Zero, and Link To The Past. I didn’t expect LTTP to be the one I liked least of the three. Project Zero (as the Europeans like me call it), is a little bit of a terrifying game where you have to exorcise ghosts by taking a picture of them with a special camera. It gave me 10 hours of being on edge and is a perfect Halloween game.

Derek: Windblown

Windblown on the OneXFly

Playing Windblown, a new indie title in Eary Access from the Dead Cells team, Motion Twin. The game combines elements from Dead Cells with Hades-inspired perspective and action gameplay. Right now I’m playing it on the OneXFly, and performance is a little rough (needed 20w TDP for 60fps at 800p) but hopefully, we will see improvements as development continues.

Ban: Hallow’s Eve

Hallows Eve on the RG35XXSP

Since I’m out of town, I took the RG35XX SP with me, and I started playing a game called Hallow’s Eve. Its a short game where you play a pumpkin man using his time to get into the human world to rent a copy of Jurassic Park… It doesn’t go according to plan.

It’s kind of like Legend of Zelda, but compressed down in a shorter easier-to-play game. Plus you can fight bad guys and I can’t say no to that. Now I want to watch Jurassic Park

You can find it on Portmaster, but you do have to buy the game off of Itch.io (it’s only $4).

Andrew: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Ayaneo Pocket Micro - Zelda Link to the Past

I haven’t really been able to play much of anything over the past month or so, besides some occasional Wordle or doing some testing for different handhelds. However, seeing as October is almost over, it means that time’s running out on me to be able to at least scratch together one point for GotX. Naturally, of the three winners this month, I picked Zelda. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get it checked off the list, but I’m sure trying to.

Kelo: Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade

Fire Emblem binding Blade

Heard horror stories about how difficult this game is, but I’m rather enjoying it!
