GPD has been kicking around the Win 5 for around a year at this point. Consider; a big beefy x86 handheld running basically the best APU that’s on the market. All of that in a handheld that performs like a desktop, and all of that while also lacking the thing that makes a handheld what it is. The battery. Don’t worry you could dock a battery onto the back of it, but that was the biggest gripe for a number of people. Well it looks like GPD isn’t quite done with the Win 5, because as of September 16th, they’ve announced a brand new tier to the Win 5, and it’s still pretty expensive.
The GPD Win 5 is now getting a brand new variant with the AMD AI MAX+ 388 mobile APU. Alongside that it’ll be bringing 32GB of LPDDR5 @ 8,000MT/s and a 1tb, 2280 NVMe SSD. All of this could be yours for the low low price of $1,722 which is $50 less than that of their retail pricing.

Alongside that you could add an external battery for $93, or the bespoke GPD Win 5 Dock for $93 as well. And if none of that suits your fancy, their AMD AI MAX+ 395 SKU is still available over on indiegogo for a cool $2,460.
The difference between the two units isn’t too great, as you maintain the same ridiculous 8060S graphics, but what you end up losing are some cores. Dropping from 16 cores to just 8 cores in the newest Win 5 variant may seem like a lot, but without the excess cores, you can feed more power to the GPU.
