In case you don’t remember, Anbernic has recently been putting out information and videos about the Anbernic RG 55G1. They’ve been showing how peroformant it’ll be and everything without actually telling us what’s going to power it and what the price is going to end up being. Despite this wait around, Anbernic has decided that they’re going to launch ANOTHER handheld in the midst of this wait to keep us all happy. And despite the fact that it’s a low powered clamshell, this might be exactly what the doctor has ordered with the Anbernic RG SP.

Over the last two years, Anbernic has released a pair of H700 clamshells that have been “close” but not quite what people wanted from an SP inspired clamshell. You had the RG 35XXSP with its chunker Gameboy Advance SP inspired design, no sticks, and a 3.5″ 4:3 display that could play a lot of games. Great, but we wanted a 3:2 display for those wanting GBA only. Anbernic did that later with the RG 34XXSP, but this time included entirely unnecessary sticks for most. But now that we’re in 2026, Anbernic has combined those two for the RG SP. A slimmed down, toned and tuned clamshell that should hopefully meet all of those needs.

Off the bat, Anbernic is giving us almost everything we need to know in one video. It’s H700 powered with the 3.4″ 720×480 display. It’s got the 3.5mm jack, it’s been slimmed down to better match the original SP in size better by trimming the forehead, and they’ve made the entire device slimmer just to make it easier to pocket. If you’re looking for a clamshell to take with you, they might have done it here with the RG SP. Last but certainly not least, they’ve got four metallic colors to choose from including silver, black, peal blue, and pink. I will be getting that blue no matter what happens.

I look forward to taking a look at the RG SP in the coming month as usually when Anbernic releases their H700 powered chips they’re pretty quick to reach shipping from there. At this point the three things we don’t know now are battery, ram, and pricing, but I guarantee that’ll get shared all at once unlike the drip feeding we’ve been dealing with recently. For more information about the RG SP, keep an eye out here on the RH website, and on Anbernic’s Youtube channel, because when the cowboy music plays, we’ll be ready to ride.

Share.
