Before RAMageddon wreaked havoc on the tech industry, MagicX was announcing new “WIP” devices on a seemingly-weekly basis. All of that grinded to a halt once the costs of RAM and storage skyrocketed, leaving us wondering if the company would manage to stick around. Recently, MagicX retired the Mini Zero 28, garnered public feedback about the Mini40, and today, announced something completely unexpected.

According to the announcement on the MagicX Discord, the company has “custom-developed a 3.3-inch 1024×768 high-quality OLED display.”

Excited to share some news with the community!

We’ve custom-developed a 3.3-inch 1024×768 high-quality OLED display

This panel is the result of close collaboration with our supplier — the colors look genuinely beautiful: vivid, rich, and with the deep blacks OLED is known for

It’s planned to debut in one of our 2026 devices.

Which device, and exactly when — we’ll share more the moment things are ready.

Consider this a little sneak peek. Stay tuned

At first, I thought this was a veiled attempt at trying to say that it was essentially going to use the same display as we’ve seen in the TrimUI Brick and Brick Hammer. However, I was quickly disproven after realizing I overlooked the “OLED” display part of the announcement. Plus, TrimUI uses a 3.2-inch IPS panel, so slightly smaller, although the resolution is shared between the Brick’s screen and what MagicX has announced.

Rather surprisingly, despite the company’s recent focus on the MagicX Mini40, that device will feature a 4-inch display. This means that there’s a decent chance that we’ll see yet another MagicX handheld released this year, in addition to the Mini40. Although, MagicX has not yet confirmed that the company will move forward with the production and release of the Mini40.

MagicX XU20 V32 Top Down

At this point, it’s too early to assume or surmise what this potential handheld from MagicX could be. Maybe MagicX is about to join the likes of the TrimUI Brick Pro and MANGMI Air Y with another vertical handheld. I kind of like the idea of releasing an updated version of the XU Retro XU20 V32, even if that device didn’t quite catch on in the way I had hoped it would.

Nevertheless, we’ll be keeping an eye on the MagicX Discord while we await whatever announcement might be on the way next.

Share.
