Anbernic has been on a roll as of late, releasing new updates for the RG477V, RG477M, RG DS, and now, practically the entire RG XX lineup.
An update is available now for almost every one of Anbernic’s H700-powered handhelds, with the two exceptions being the RG35XX (2024) and the original RG35XX.
Here’s the full-list of what devices an update is available for, along with the new version number:
- RG35XX Plus – v1.2.4
- RG35XXH – v1.2.4
- RG28XX – v1.1.3
- RG35XXSP – v1.1.5
- RG40XXH – v1.1.0
- RG40XXV – v1.1.1.0
- RG CubeXX – v1.0.7
- RG34XX – v1.0.6
- RG34XXSP – v1.0.6
- RG35XX Pro – v1.0.5
With this release, Anbernic is aiming to improve the overall stability, and as such, it includes a bunch of different bug fixes. There are also fixes for the following:
- PSP Shortcut Fix: Fixed the shortcut key issue for adjusting backlight brightness in the PSP emulator.
- Low Battery Notification Fix: Resolved the issue with the low battery warning prompt.
Lastly, Anbernic is introducing some new “UI themes” that are said to allow for “easier operation and a more intuitive display.” Perhaps Anbernic inspired itself to update the RG XX line after introducing new UI themes with the Linux build for the RG DS. At the very least, it’s definitely a nice addition for those who prefer the stock Anbernic Linux experience.
As for actually updating your handhelds, you won’t see an OTA update notification prompting you to install the latest builds. Instead, you’ll need to manually download and flash the firmware onto your microSD card. With that in mind, it’s important to back up the data on your microSD card before flashing the update, because we all know how much it sucks to lose those precious save files after hours and hours of gameplay.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that software updates come few and far between for some of our favorite handhelds. Most of the time, that’s not really a problem, as many of us flash a custom firmware as soon as we can. However, it’s still appreciated to see updates occasionally arrive to fix a few bugs or add some new themes.

Your article fails to mention why this update is happening. The rg35xx all became bricks in about 6 months. The SD card that comes with them is cheap garbage. You need to use a new SD card or this update will not work. I know because I own 2 of them.
Can’t even download it because the download quota has been exceeded.
