While Anbernic has been busy releasing a new RG34XXSP shell and gearing up for the RG Rotate launch, it’s also been doing some work on older devices. The company just released a new update for the RG477V, but this isn’t just your run-of-the-mill bug fix update.
Until now, Anbernic’s RG Launcher has been the company’s default alternative to the standard Android home screen. While it serves its purpose, it’s not very robust and has frankly gotten a bit stale, especially as more and more Android launchers are released.
With the v1.38 update, Anbernic is now offering a new launcher experience, coming in the form of “RG Home.” This doesn’t outright replace the existing RG Launcher, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see that change with future handhelds.
RG477V V1.38 Update Changelog
- Added new launcher & game frontend: RG Home feature (Open from the desktop)
- Added Control Center feature (needs to be edit from the dropdown quick tiles menu)
- Added new Key mapping feature, via the Control Center
- Added support for palette customization in settings
- Fixed known bugs
Anbernic is also looking to appease those who want easier ways to tweak various settings on devices, such as Performance Modes, Fan Speeds, and screen overlays. That’s now possible thanks to the inclusion of the Control Center feature, which, once enabled, will appear with a swipe in from the right side of the screen.
From here, we have five different menu panels to cycle through, including Performance, Quick, Gamepad, Mapping, and Device. While many of these options were already available via the Android Quick Settings panel, they’ve now been condensed and also live in Control Center. On top of that, Anbernic is revamping its built-in Key Mapping, easily accessible from Control Center, and providing a fresh new look when enabled and mapping keys.
It’s not that often that we see Anbernic release software updates for its various devices, let alone updates with so many drastic changes. RG477V owners can use the built-in FOTA Update app, as v1.38 is rolling out now. Or, you can head over to the link below, download the OTA, and sideload the update onto your RG477V manually.
