TrimUI hasn’t even released the Brick Pro yet, but a new leak suggests that the company might already be hard at work on its next handheld. This leak comes via the r/SBCGaming subreddit, where some CAD renders were shown off, with eagle-eyed users on the RH Discord finding that it might be called the TrimUI Flap X1.
The TrimUI Flip or Flap X1 already looks pretty interesting, provided that the CAD renders match up with the final design. It sports a single display on the top with all of the rest of the controls on the bottom, much like the Retroid Pocket Flip and Flip 2. However, unlike Retroid’s offering, the controls for the Flap X1 are inset a bit, offering raised edges for the display to rest when the clamshell is closed.

As for the controls, we’ll have our standard ABXY + D-pad + dual joystick layout, with a Start, Select, and TrimUI button at the bottom. However, it would appear that the Flap X1 will feature four function buttons placed between the controls and the hinge.
Beyond that, the Volume +/- can be found on the left, with the Power button, dual speakers, 3.5mm audio jack, USB-C port, and a dedicated switch on the bottom. Then, the in-line shoulder/trigger buttons are right where you would expect them to be.
Most of the time, it’s rather difficult to determine much else about a device simply based on CAD renders. However, one user in the RH Discord was seemingly able to provide an estimate on the dimensions simply based on the USB-C port and screen size.

With that, the Flap X1’s could measure in around 125-130mm x 75-80mm x ~15mm. This would make it the most compact large-screen clamshell retro handheld available, as it’s smaller than the Retroid Pocket Flip 1, Pocket Flip 2, and AYN Thor.

Seeing as I’m the resident TrimUI shill around these parts, I’m really excited to see what the company has been working on. I just hope that it actually makes its way to the market sooner rather than later.
