TrimUI has been a bit busier than normal this year, as the company refreshed the Brick Hammer back in June of this year. Just recently, two more colors were added to the mix for the Hammer, but there’s another new handheld on the horizon with the TrimUI Smart Pro S.
Over the past few weeks, there have been a couple of blog posts over at MechDiY showing off a supposed TrimUI Smart Pro S. We’ve largely avoided the news, as this has been the only source, and we haven’t really seen much else about it from anywhere else. However, we’ve just received confirmation that it’s the real deal, with the Smart Pro S expected to provide a few upgrades over the original.
First things first, the Smart Pro S looks practically identical to the Smart Pro, which includes the screen size and button layout. However, TrimUI says it’s made a few tweaks “while improving heat dissipation and overall feel.” Heat dissipation is going to be particularly important, as the Smart Pro S is getting an upgraded processor while potentially making the switch from Linux to an Android-based OS.
As for the internals, the Smart Pro S is powered by the Allwinner A523, which has only been found in the TJD T80 that was released last year. Unfortunately, TrimUI isn’t upgrading the RAM, but the new chip brings with it an “enhanced Wi-Fi module,” and the company promises the Smart Pro S will offer “optimized system compatibility.”
By upgrading the SoC to the A523, this also means we get a more powerful GPU in the Mali-G57 MC01, which is the same one found in the Helegaly Action Pi, Abxylute One Pro, and other handhelds. TrimUI claims the Smart Pro S is “smoother than ever,” sporting a “2.5x faster GPU.” Here are a few other key highlights that we expect to see when the Smart Pro S is released (via MechDIY):
- Built-in active cooling fan
- Clickable joysticks (L3/R3 support)
- New Home and Reset buttons
- Smoother PSP, PS1, and Dreamcast emulation
All that’s left now, it seems, is for TrimUI and/or MechDIY to share how much the Smart Pro S will cost, and when it will be officially released. Stay tuned to RH, as we’ll be sure to share the information as soon as it’s made available.

“potentially making the switch from Linux to an Android-based OS.”
and
“Unfortunately, TrimUI isn’t upgrading the RAM”
Would that mean (potentially) running Android on 1 GB RAM?
