Back in June, we noticed that the Odin 2 in its base configuration was completely out of stock. A week or so later, that was no longer the case, but now, AYN has started selling refurbished Odin 2 Max devices.

This will set you back $299, which happens to be just $10 more than if you were to buy a Base Odin 2. It’s also $130 less than what AYN is currently selling the Odin 2 Max for, as long as you use code MaxSave$30 at checkout.

So what’s the difference between the “new” and the “refurb”? Thankfully, AYN provides a nice and quick breakdown:

  1. It may have minor cosmetic imperfections, including but not limited to slight scratches on the shell.
  2. The display may contain small dead pixels within acceptable industry standards.
  3. The product may not come with original factory sealing or shrink wrap.

These conditions are not covered by after-sales service. Please acknowledge this before making your purchase.

Hopefully, this means that AYN went through and verified that everything else with these units worked first, and gave them a good cleaning, before shipping them out. And at the time of this writing, the only color option that you can’t grab from the Refurbished listing is “Rainbow”. But we can’t imagine that will be the case for too much longer.

By my calculations, we should hear about the AYN Odin 3 any day now. It’s been almost eight months since the Odin 2 Portal began shipping, but since then, we really haven’t heard much from the company.

It’s really not the end of the world, by any means, as the Odin 2 Portal is still an incredible handheld with plenty of power. However, given what we’ve seen from AYANEO, Retroid, and even Anbernic, I can’t help but wonder what’s next for the next Odin.

Part of me hopes that the Odin 3 is a direct competitor to the AYANEO Pocket DS, but I’m not holding my breath. However, I’m more interested in seeing what chip AYN taps into next, seeing as all three current Odin 2 models are powered by the 2.5-year-old Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
