We’re expecting the TrimUI Brick Hammer to show up any day now, but it turns out that the company has been working on another spin-off handheld. Patent images were found courtesy of CellPhish (retrospecd.gg) via Baidu, revealing the TrimUI Smart Pro Mini.
The leaked patent doesn’t provide any specifics about the handheld. However, some in the RH Discord seem to think it’ll feature a display somewhere between 3.5″ to 4″. For reference, the current TrimUI Smart Pro sports a 4.96-inch IPS display, making the Pro Mini a much more pocketable retro handheld.
Minor and Familiar Design Tweaks
From the patent images, we can see that this really is just set to be a smaller version of the Smart Pro. The button placement is practically identical, and there’s even the FN Switch on the bottom to the left of the Reset button.
The only notable difference we can see, besides the size, is the TrimUI logo on the back. Assuming this is the final design, the Mini Smart Pro will offer a bit of passive cooling, with the logo cutout potentially doubling as an exhaust of sorts.
To me, if it weren’t for the TrimUI logo on the back, I would have mistaken this for an RG40XXH. It’s essentially using the same design language and comes with a 4-inch screen. Ultimately, that’s what I think we’ll end up with: an RG40XXH with an A133P and TrimUI’s software, along with the FN switch on the back.
What To Expect?
We’re just grasping at straws here, but we would have to assume that the Smart Pro Mini will be powered by the Allwinner A133P. This is the same chip currently found in both the TrimUI Smart Pro, Brick, and since the Hammer is just a Brick with a metal shell, it’ll be there too.
As for pricing, we presume the Smart Pro Mini will come in around the $75 mark to start. But as we’ve seen from many other retro handhelds, it probably won’t be long before pricing settles somewhere around $50.
