During the Mobile Web Congress in Barcelona this year, Samsung Display revealed a foldable handheld gaming PC.

Out of all smartphones sold over the past three years, Samsung has been the manufacturer of nearly 29% of them. In the TV space, Samsung and LG are the two leading manufacturers of OLED panels.

Samsung’s range of products also spreads across nearly every area of home electronics from refrigerators to SSDs.

The Flex Gaming Concept

During MWC 2025, Samsung premiered a conceptual device called “Flex Gaming” which, in simplest terms, is a foldable gaming PC. Although it seems to simply be a concept, based on the history and function of Samsung Display, we could see similar devices use the technology in the near future.

In tech, concepts are shown simply to showcase where a company is going, what their vision of the future may be, or what they believe they can push their tech to do. Samsung Display, as an arm of Samsung, primarily focuses solely on screen tech.

The larger overarching company, Samsung Technologies, is the one we commonly see branded on various electronics. The Display subsidiary makes screens, panels, and introduces their spin on innovation to them and sells or licenses the technology to other companies.

The foldable that was on display at MWC featured no D-pad, no action buttons, and no one was allowed to actually touch the device. Besides it running PC games, the only other piece of information that we know is that the Flex Gaming handheld sports a 7.2-inch display.

However, the concept being shown highlights that foldable tech may be a fad that’s here to stay. Recently, over the past decade, we’ve seen a resurgence of “flip phones” that no longer have a screen on one half and a numerical keypad on another, but instead have a foldable screen going the full tenth of the device.

With Samsung Display showing off tech like this for the first time, it’s possible that the tech may creep its way into retro handhelds. But personally, I wouldn’t hold my breath. We’ve had foldable screens for some time now, but their use in retro handhelds is still yet to be seen.
