It’s barely been a month since the Anbernic RG557 launched, and in that time, the company has released a new handheld and announced another one. Oh, and it released an update for its Android handhelds that includes “Anbernic AI,” for one reason or another. And now, there are a bunch of people who have gone to play a game, only to find their RG557 not working, which has left them scrambling for a fix.
The RG557 didn’t get off to the start that Anbernic was hoping for, as performance issues plagued the company’s first handheld to feature the Dimensity 8300. And now, you might try to turn on the RG557, only to see a message that says “Red State. Device Cannot Boot. Enter Repair Mode. Dismiss After 5 Seconds.”
This has been happening on and off since retail units began to arrive. Some have even reached out to Anbernic directly, hoping for an answer or a fix, only to come up empty. It even happened to me, as I went to try and check something, and was promptly graced with that dreaded error message. Thankfully, Gamma is here to save our (and Anbernic’s) bacon yet again with his aptly-named ‘Anbernic RG557 Unbricker’ tool.
Everything you need to get your RG557 back up and running is available for download directly from the corresponding GitHub page. This includes three different files, but Gamma didn’t stop there. The legend himself provides a detailed written guide, to go along with a video tutorial, so you know exactly what to do when using the Unbricker tool.
The entire process should take less than 30 minutes, depending on how fast your internet is. And while it might all seem a bit tedious, just make sure you follow the guides provided by Gamma, and your RG557 should be working properly again.
