The Nintendo Switch is one of my favorite handhelds. It really got me back into gaming in a way that no other console has. It brought back love and nostalgia for Nintendo games that I have forever been missing and didn’t even realize it. See more on that here.

The successor to the Nintendo Switch has been rumored for years it has felt. Now that Nintendo has finally acknowledged that we are at the end of Switch’s life and that a follow-up will be coming, it is a safe time to put together a wishlist of what I want in it.

Switch 2 Wishlist: OLED Screen

The OLED Switch was such a nice refresh. The screen looks great! I hope Nintendo keeps using OLED in the next model and doesn’t hold onto that idea for another Switch 2 refresh in a few years to try and get more sales, but it’s Nintendo. You never know with them.

Backward Compatibility

I bought way too many games for my original Switch. I am a lover of physical media and I hope that I can still pop in my old cartridges to play on a new model. Will they upscale and perform better? That would be awesome! It would be an instant replay of Tears of the Kingdom for me if so.

Performance Upgrade

Nintendo is usually a bit behind on performance on their consoles, but the Switch is leagues behind where Sony and Microsoft are. I am not saying I want it to perform at the same level (though that’d be sweet), but at least close that gap. We know handhelds are capable of power, let us have it!

First Party Game(s) at Launch

Nothing is going to have me pre-ordering this faster than a great game or games on launch. If there is a new 3D Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, or even the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4, I will be refreshing my browser religiously.

Battery Life

The battery life is not bad on the OLED model, but we can always want more! One of my favorite things about a device is the battery life, and if the new Switch can improve on that, I will be very happy.

Storage

Nintendo games are not very large, but it would be nice to have more storage available. I don’t want to have to put in an SD card to be able to hold all of my games. Give us that 512GB or more!

Customize Your Home Screen

I love customizing my 3DS. Being able to pick backgrounds and organize my home screen is way more fun than it should be. Even the backplate swaps available for the N3Ds are really cool. It would be nice if Nintendo would give us these options with the Switch 2.

Better Controllers

The Joy-Cons were cool at first, but they need an upgrade. The stick drift was such a huge scandal for Nintendo, I don’t think they will let that happen again…hopefully. I would like a good D-Pad, better sticks, and maybe a bit of a grip. Hopefully, that is possible with them being able to work the same way!

Better Way to Play Old Games

I hate Nintendo Switch Online. It is such a bad way to play legacy games from the company. Being able to purchase Virtual Console games like you were able to in the past was so much nicer because you could keep the games and not rely on a subscription.

Weird Nintendo Gimmick?

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on Switch OLED

Nintendo has always been about a weird gimmick like 3D, dual screens, motion control, and even the idea of the Switch. What will they do with Switch 2, if anything? I would like to see them get creative and give us something extra. Heck, I even liked using my 3DS as a pedometer and earning game coins.

I really hope Nintendo finds a way to make this next Switch as exciting as the first. Hopefully, it is a big enough change and marketed well so we don’t get another Wii U story. What do you want out of a Nintendo Switch successor? Let us know in the comments below, and chat with us in our Discord!
