Neo Game Lab, the brainchild of developer Miguel Soto, has revealed NeoStation, a new cross-platform front-end set to be released next month. NeoStation is meant to fill perceived gaps in existing front-end applications like ES-DE and Daijisho, and at launch will feature a cutting-edge UI/UX, cloud save capability, and support for multiple operating systems.

Much emphasis is placed on NeoStation’s User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI). Soto’s goal is to “bring you a comprehensive emulation station that meets the highest standards of UX/UI design and functionality” and will allow for clean navigation with either a gamepad or touchscreen.

One interesting feature that distinguishes NeoStation from the competition is NeoSync, a free service providing cloud backups for RetroArch save states. This feature will allow users to sync progress on save states across devices, not unlike the cloud save functionality on Steam. In theory, this could make many of the use cases for SyncThing and the like redundant.

Although the first release will only be available on Android and Windows, the plan is to support macOS, iOS, and Linux as well. Other future plans include integrating services like retroachievements.org (or Cheevos, as the kids call it) and screenscraper.fr (for scraping and metadata).

NeoStation - Vertical Orientation

While the app will be free when it launches in October, in order to help offset development and persistent server costs, the team is accepting donations. With its unique offerings, Neo Game Lab may have a winner on their hands. By offering unique, built-in features like the NeoSync cloud save service, NeoStation presents a compelling alternative for gamers seeking a seamless, integrated front-end.
