The next device from Miyoo is finally official, with Miyoo announcing that the Mini Flip will arrive on October 19th at 8:00 PM PT (11 PM ET). Miyoo aims to capture lightning in a bottle for a second time by taking the beloved Miyoo Mini experience and cramming it into a nostalgic, ultra-portable clamshell design.

The retro handheld crowd will find it reminiscent of the Funkey S or a more premium version of the PowKiddy V90S, but in reality, it literally is just a foldable Miyoo Mini. It is expected to have the same specs as the Miyoo Mini V4, which sports an ARM Cortex-A7 dual core, 1.2GHz processor, and 128MB of RAM.

The Miyoo Mini Flip should feature the same lovely 750×560 display as the Mini V4, which is known for its solid integer scaling options and color reproduction. It is also reported to include Wi-Fi, which was absent in the original Mini but included in the Mini Plus. This should facilitate easy file transfers and make the device compatible with retro achievements.

The Mini Flip will be available in four colors: regular White with muted colored buttons, SNES-inspired Grey, Pink, and Yellow. As the Miyoo Flip suffered from reported hinge issues, users are understandably wary. Comments on the above video were overwhelmingly concerned about the durability of the hinge. Whether that will impact the device’s launch sales remains to be seen.

If Miyoo can stick the landing with solid build quality and a low price point, the device will be a winner. Rumors suggest a price point similar to the original, which launched at around $50. Additionally, it should be able to run the Mini’s pre-existing firmware, like Onion. That said, these will need to be updated to support hinge-based features like close-to-sleep.

As for where you’re able to pick one of these up from, there are actually a few different retailers to choose from. Here are the ones we’ve found so far:
