Last Summer, MagicX was embroiled in a rather spicy controversy, as the XU Mini M was found to not be powered by the processor that was advertised. Originally, many flocked to snag the Mini M as it was said to be powered by the RK3562, making it the first retro handheld to do so. As it turns out, XU Mini M is actually powered by the RK3326, which continues to make its rounds in the scene.
After months of working with the community to gauge design a new handheld, the MagicX Mini Zero 28 is almost here. This is the first MagicX handheld to be released since the Mini M debacle, and on paper, there’s quite a bit to be excited about.
For one, the Zero 28 retains much of what we liked about the Mini M, coming in a horizontal form factor that should be quite pocketable. It features a 2.8-inch IPS display with a 640 x 480 resolution, which matches up with the same screen found on the previous MagicX handheld.
What makes this particularly exciting is that MagicX claims the Mini Zero 28 will be powered by the Allwinner A133P and is paired with 2GB of RAM. This might sound familiar to some, as it’s the same chip found in the TrimUI Brick and TrimUI Smart Pro.
However, the major difference here is that instead of running Linux, MagicX is spicing things up by relying on Android. More specifically, Android 10. The official spec sheet also says that the Mini Zero 28 is using something called “Dawn Launcher,” but we aren’t exactly sure what to expect there.
Besides that, the Mini Zero 28 supports microSD card expansion up to 512GB, while also being equipped with Stereo Speakers. As for battery life, the Mini Zero 28 includes a 2,900mAh battery, which is said to provide up to nine hours of juice on a single charge.
There’s a good chance that you’ve made it this far and are wondering how much and when. Well, as it turns out, MagicX is coming in rather aggressively (in a good way), with pricing starting at $55. This is right around what you’ll pay for the TrimUI Brick over at AliExpress, without any coupon codes or deals.
Lastly, you’ll be able to order the Mini Zero 28 for yourself starting tomorrow, January 18, using the link below. MagicX is also doing things a bit differently, as it won’t immediately be released on AliExpress.
Instead, hit the button below and you’ll need to head over to the official MagicX website to order it. There are plans to bring it to AliExpress, however, that won’t be happening until sometime after the Chinese New Year, which is on January 29.
At the time of this writing, you still can’t order the Mini Zero 28 just yet, but you can register an email to be notified when the store goes live. Or, just bookmark the link and keep hitting F5 until we have liftoff.

I wonder if this could lead to Android on TrimUI Brick or the Miyoo A30 just by virtue of providing it can (albeit with 2gb ram)
I so want to try it great trailer on the great it handles and the play is awesome
2gb ram for Android 10 isn’t good. Don’t expect anything special. Sounds like an average if that handheld. Get literally anything else unless you just want to play GBA and other low power systems but even then just get an anbernic device.
For the love of god why f***ing android? Makes absolutely no sense and I don’t believe the community really wants that. We would have such a powerhouse with a good cfw. Just look at the TrimUi smart pro. It can emulate up to psp. Now you’re loosing the horsepower on android which is absolutely unnecessary. Don’t know why it isn’t dual boot like the latest retroid.
Man, I was so stoked when I read that they are already working on the next one with the community and now this bs.
I think I still have to get a rg28xx even tough it doesn’t even have WiFi. Or I’ll have to get the sp clone. Really disappointed…
