Going into CES 2025, it was pretty obvious that Lenovo was set to make a big announcement, and it did just that. The company introduced three new handhelds, with two versions of the Legion Go S and a teaser for the Legion Go 2.

The most exciting of the trio, at least for now, is the Legion Go S running SteamOS. This is the first x86 handheld to launch with SteamOS that isn’t a Steam Deck, and that alone is enough to get everyone excited.

Both versions of the Legion Go S are almost identical, with only a handful of differences between the two, primarily the dedicated Steam key on the SteamOS model, and the color options. The SteamOS version will be available in “Nebula Violet,” while the Windows model will be available in “Glacier White.”

Additionally, the SteamOS version features 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while the Windows model offers 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This helps explain the difference in price, as it’s not just solely related to a “Windows Tax.”

Besides that, the specs are the same across the board, and here’s what they will offer:

  • Display: 8-inch LCD / 120Hz / 1920 x 1200 / 16:10
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen Z2 Go / Ryzen Z1 Extreme
  • Memory: 16GB / 32GB LPDDR5X
  • Storage: 512GB / 1TB PCIe Gen4 (M.2 2242 / 2280)
  • Battery: 55.5Whr w/ 65W Rapid Charge
  • Audio: 2x2W Speakers
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6E / Bluetooth 5.3
  • Ports: 1x microSD Card / 2x USB-4 / 1x 3.5mm Audio Jack

This is where things get rather spicy — the Legion Go S with Windows launches this month and will set you back $729.99. Meanwhile, the Go S with SteamOS won’t be released until sometime in May, but carries a retail price of $499.99.

Lenovo Legion Go 2

Lenovo Legion Go 2 prototype render - straight on

That’s not all Lenovo had to share, as the company also gave us a look at the Legion Go 2, which retains much of what made the original so great, with a few key changes. Thankfully, the controllers are still detachable and FPS Mode is available when using the right controller.

Although we could only see a prototype, Lenovo shared the expected final spec sheet for whenever its next flagship handheld launches. One upgrade that will make a bunch of people happy is that Lenovo is swapping the IPS LCD panel in favor of an 8.8-inch OLED display.

Here’s how the rest of the spec sheet shakes out:

  • Display: 8.8-inch OLED / 144Hz / 1920 x 1200 / 16:10
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
  • GPU: AMD Radeon 780M
  • Memory: Up to 32GB LPDDR5X
  • Storage: Up to 1TB PCIe Gen4
  • Battery: TBD
  • Audio: TBD
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6E / Bluetooth 5.3
  • Ports: TBD
  • Dimensions
    • Tablet Only: 206 x 136.7 x 22.95mm
    • With Controllers: 295.6 x 136.7 x 42.25mm
  • Weight: 890 grams / 1079 grams

There are still a few questions that Lenovo left unanswered about the Legion Go 2, such as pricing and whether it will be available with SteamOS. What we do know is that it’s expected to arrive sometime in the second half of the year. Hopefully, we’ll see it land around the same time as the Legion Go S, but we’ll just have to keep an eye out until more information is made official.
