Summer is getting ready to start and it is time to start your summer job as well! The theme for GotM this month is Do Your Job June. The games nominated have to have the character doing a job. If you want to know more about our GotX program and how to participate, check out my article about that here!

Metroid II DX Romhack

Samus is back and ready to exterminate a whole bunch of Metroids! The bounty hunter makes her debut with this Game Boy game that was quite ambitious for the time. Explore a large map, kill enemies, unlock unique abilities, and progress deeper into the depths of this planet for your goal of extermination.

Sadly, AM2R and Metroid: Samus Returns for the 3DS do not count for a completion credit this month. You will need to take on the Game Boy version, however, you may use this color hack that you can find here.

Half Life

Console: PC, PS2, Port Master, Dreamcast, Android

Release: 1998

Genre: FPS

Half Life

Just a bunch of scientists

You are the scientist, Gordon Freeman. You work for the Black Mesa Research Facility. Does this sound kind of boring to you? Don’t worry, it gets way better. You are arriving a little late to the job, but that is okay. Once you clock in and start an experiment, something goes horribly wrong and you must fight for your life.

Without giving too much away, this is one of the most popular FPS games created and it is worth a play if you haven’t or even a replay if you have! The Black Mesa edition does not count, but Valve has made some Steam Deck enhancements to improve your playing experience!

Advance Wars

Console: GBA, Switch

Release: 2001

Genre: Strategy

HLTB: 15 hours

Advance Wars

Commanding battle!

Do you like strategic planning against opponents to best them in war? This game is for you! There are a ton of unit options along with terrain for you to traverse and either wipe out your opponent’s squad or capture their HQ. For completion of this, you will have to complete the campaign mode.

The Nintendo Switch remake does count for completion on this one if you want to try that out! Another tip, the tutorial is quite long and thorough. If you have played this before and don’t want to go through that whole ordeal again, you can just play the last mission of the tutorial and it will let you get right to the campaign.

Those are our games this month, so drop by and join us in our Discord as we enjoy another great month of GotM. Which games are you excited to play? If you are new to GotX, check out our article here on how to participate. Happy gaming!
