It was only a matter of time, but if you’ve been saving up some AliExpress discounts, now’s your time to shine. This week, the official AYN storefront on AliExpress was updated with both the Odin 3 and Thor listed as being available for “pre-order.”
If that sounds a bit odd, you’re not alone, as there have already been listings for both handhelds on AliExpress for at least a few weeks. However, those are only available through third-party resellers, often with a pretty hefty price markup. Speaking of price, here’s how much each model is currently listed for:
- Odin 3
- Base: $352.05 + $23.54 (Shipping)
- Max: $426.71 + $23.54 (Shipping)
- Pro: $475.94 + $23.54 (Shipping)
- AYN Thor
- Base: $321.26 + $23.54 (Shipping)
- Pro: $386.70 + $23.54 (Shipping)
- Max: $461.07 + $23.54 (Shipping)
Discount codes notwithstanding, that is a bit more than what you can currently spend to get either the Odin 3 or the Thor from AYN directly, even when tacking on shipping costs. However, this is nothing unusual, as AliExpress listings also account for things like tariffs and other fees.
There is one thing to note, and that’s you won’t find either the Odin 3 Ultra or the Thor Lite listed on AliExpress. We’re not entirely sure what’s going on with the Lite, but the Odin 3 Ultra being omitted is simply because AYN is pausing sales of that model due to the ongoing RAM shortage. I shudder to think just how much it will cost from AYN directly, let alone from third-party retailers with potential markups.
Circling back to the fact that all of these devices are listed as “pre-orders,” this shouldn’t be too surprising. AYN is still working through its “Batch Pre-orders,” so the company is trying to set the right expectations. This is definitely the right way to go given the drama that we’ve seen in the space when it comes to device launches, releases, and availability.
Nevertheless, it’s great to see that both the Odin 3 and the Thor are just about ready for prime time. With that out of the way, I can’t help but wonder how much longer before we’ll see AYN’s latest handhelds arrive on Amazon or other third-party retailers.
