Anbernic has announced the upcoming release of its latest handheld, the RG CubeXX. This new device is the same form factor as the RG Cube, but with a D-Pad up top, and the H700 Anbernic internals we all know and love so well. Folks loved the design and form factor of the original RG Cube, but didn’t necessarily need the extra horsepower and associated cost.
We give Anbernic some deserved razzing for their constant device turnarounds, but the other side of that coin is being able to respond to feedback from handheld fans in record time. The original RG Cube has only been around since June, and now folks who wanted something in this form factor have options without going into the next price tier for PS2/GameCube compatibility.
UPDATE 10/16: RG CubeXX Price and Availability
Those clamoring to get their hands on the RG CubeXX don’t have too much longer to wait. You’ll be able to order Anbernic’s latest retro handheld starting on October 22 at 6 am ET (3 am PT). The RG CubeXX retails for $67, but if you order within the first 72 hours, the price is discounted to $60.
Public Feedback
On the topic of community suggestions, it looks like our friend Russ over at Retro Game Corps may have even had a hand in bringing this new 1:1 form factor to life. Thanks Russ!

We can assume that the active cooling fan from the RG Cube has been removed in the XX just due to a lack of need, but it isn’t listed on the specs at the moment and unfortunately, the video doesn’t give us a look at the back of the device. It’s fairly safe to say though, as with other H700 form factors, this one won’t have a dedicated cooling fan.
Some new color options compared to the original Cube round things out. I know I’m eyeing that minimalist white-on-white design. RGB lighting on the sticks makes the jump over as well to add a little zing to your chosen design.
A Good Fit
At this point we know exactly how this device will perform based on all the other H700 chipset systems, Anbernic has released in a very short period. The CubeXX should offer a great 1:1 gaming experience for those inclined, with what we can assume will be a price point in the $70 range. Community feedback on the original Cube said “Give us this in an H700 with a D-Pad up top”.
Well, they have. So now I guess they will see if that vocal portion of the market has legs. Hopefully, the light bleed issues that plagued early Cube releases won’t be an issue this time around. While this may not be the generational step forward some might be hoping for, it’s certainly nice to know that Anbernic is listening.
So what do we think? Is this finally the form factor + budget combo you’ve been waiting for Anbernic to make? Let us know in the comments below, and chat with us in our Discord!

Is it really 8 gigs of ram or is that a typo?
Nope, I messed up reformatting the table thanks for the catch 🙂
Oh and 128g of internal storage.
Sorry. Typo too?
Ram and storage were from the table format, good eye! We got that fixed up.
